GPT vs Gemini

GPT vs Gemini API pricing

OpenAI and Google API prices side by side at each model size, the Gemini launch prices and when they end, and one workload priced on both.

Prices at each model size

Per million tokens, standard tier, short prompts. Sizes are a rough match by price and how each provider positions the model, not a claim that two models do equally well.

SizeOpenAIGoogle
LargestGPT-5.5: $5 in, $30 outGemini 4 Argon: $2 in, $10 out
LargeGPT-6.1 Sol: $2 in, $10 outGemini 3.1 Pro Preview: $2 in, $12 out
MidGPT-6.1 Terra: $1 in, $5 outGemini 3.8 Flash: $0.75 in, $3.75 out
SmallGPT-5 nano: $0.05 in, $0.40 outGemini 2.5 Flash-Lite: $0.10 in, $0.40 out

Two Gemini prices end soon

Gemini 4 Argon is on a launch price through November 30, 2026, then doubles to $4 in and $20 out. Gemini 3.8 Flash is on a launch price through December 31, 2026, then doubles to $1.50 in and $7.50 out. The tables use today's price; budget for the later one.

The same workload on both

The example is 20 million input tokens and 4 million output tokens a month, prompts around 4,000 tokens, at list price.

ModelInputOutputPer month
GPT-5.5$100$120$220
Gemini 4 Argon$40.00$40.00$80.00
GPT-6.1 Sol$40.00$40.00$80.00
Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview$40.00$48.00$88.00
GPT-6.1 Terra$20.00$20.00$40.00
Gemini 3.8 Flash$15.00$15.00$30.00
GPT-5 nano$1.00$1.60$2.60
Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite$2.00$1.60$3.60

Caching and batch rules

OpenAI caches repeated prompt starts on its own, charges nothing to write the cache, and lists cached input at a tenth of the input price on GPT-5.5. Google lists cached input at a tenth of the input price on most Gemini models. Both run batch jobs at half the standard price.

The same workload with half the input cached, and in batch:

ModelList price50 in 100 input tokens cachedBatch price
GPT-5.5$220$175$110
Gemini 4 Argon$80.00$61.00$40.00
GPT-6.1 Sol$80.00$61.00$40.00
Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview$88.00$70.00$44.00
GPT-6.1 Terra$40.00$30.50$20.00
Gemini 3.8 Flash$30.00$23.25$15.00
GPT-5 nano$2.60$2.15$1.30
Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite$3.60$2.70$1.80

Where to go next

Ways to lower the OpenAI bill are in how to cut your OpenAI API costs, and every model is on LLM API pricing.

List prices in US dollars per million tokens, standard tier, read from each provider's own pricing page. Providers change prices, so check the source before you set a budget. FUSR.ai connects Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI keys. Google prices are here to compare; FUSR.ai does not route to Gemini.

Questions

Common questions

Is Gemini cheaper than GPT?
At the top end, Gemini 4 Argon costs less per token than GPT-5.5, and is on a launch price until November 30, 2026. In the middle, GPT-6.1 Terra and Gemini 3.8 Flash are close. Compare on the price after any launch price ends.
Does FUSR.ai route to Gemini?
No. FUSR.ai takes Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI keys. Gemini prices are here so you can compare.
Where do these prices come from?
From each provider's own pricing page, read on October 28, 2026: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and xAI. Every table on this page links its source and shows that date. Prices change, so check the provider's page before you commit to a budget.
Can FUSR.ai help with my OpenAI bill?
Yes, if you use Anthropic, OpenAI, or xAI API keys. FUSR.ai takes your own keys, picks a model for each request, keeps prompt caching working, and caps spend per key. Your providers bill you directly and FUSR.ai adds nothing to token prices. It does not route to Gemini, and it does not use chat plans like Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus.

Straight talk

What FUSR.ai does and doesn't do

It does

  • Takes your OpenAI API key, encrypted.
  • Picks a GPT model per request by rules you can read.
  • Leaves billing with your providers, at list price.

It doesn't

  • Route to Gemini. Google prices are on this page to compare.
  • Work with ChatGPT chat plans. A chat plan is not an API key.
  • Store your prompts. Routing never sees the prompt text.

Try FUSR.ai with your own API keys.

Connect your OpenAI API key, and FUSR.ai picks the GPT model for each request.

Set up from your terminal with npx fusrai setup, or start in the browser.

You bring your own API keys. Chat plans like Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus are separate and FUSR.ai does not use them.
